What will happen to his license?

Sorry to p on bad news but on the face of it it doesn't look good. 6 points within 2 years is meant to be enough to lose a licence. It's very harsh though, I'm always scared of getting the speed limit wrong and getting penalised when I don't even intend to speed. Wait and see what the DVLA say - they're the authority on these things.
