How do you keep an energetic lab puppy from playing?

We got our 9 mth old lab/golden mix puppy neutered on Friday. He came home groggy and very laid back.....until the next morning. He is so hyper and wanting to play but the vet said he can only go outside on a leash for 10 - 14 days. The poor thing is bringing his ball over to me constantly and crying to play outside. I don't remember doing this with my golden, but then again we didn't have a fence at that time. I guess I must listen to the vet and try to find calm games to play....lol
